One of my favorite things to do is just try a new and weird filming technique when traveling. You’ve got the time to experiment and make mistakes which is where the magic happens. After watching Blade Runner for the umpteenth time I really wanted to make the practical Replicant reflective eyes trick but in a more user friendly way. Could I travel with that kind of a rig and make it simpler? Figured it out and got some custom glass made for it, not easy but fun regardless. With two backpacks of gear in a true dusty surfer town in Costa Rica, Puerto Viejo, we shot by day and played at night. Thankfully we had plenty of beautiful and amazing people to be our portraits. The eye reflections turned out far better than we could have imagined. It’s “The Lost Boys” with a Central America twist.
